12 Month Training Program
12-Month Training Program
A full year of training designed to build a stronger team month by month.
The 12-Month Training Program is a complete 96-hour crisis negotiation sustainment program, providing one structured 8-hour training block every month. Each month introduces a focused skill, gives the team multiple opportunities to practice it, connects it to Intel and NOC operations, and then applies it during a realistic scenario.
This is not 12 unrelated training days. The curriculum is intentionally progressive. Early months strengthen communication fundamentals. Those skills are then used to develop rapport, ask better questions, identify interests, influence behavior, assess risk, operate as a team, develop and use Intel, manage third parties, communicate during behavioral-health crises, work hostage incidents, and finally integrate everything during a complex year-end exercise.
The year progresses through:
- January — Reset the Basics: Active Listening Under Pressure + Intel Discipline
- February — Read What Is Underneath: Emotional Labeling + Rapport
- March — Ask Before You Assume: Open-Ended Questions + Strategic Pauses
- April — Move Without Promising: Demands, Interests, Options + Influence
- May — Influence With Purpose: Behavioral Influence + Small Commitments
- June — Know the Risk: Suicide Inquiry + Protective Factors
- July — Work the Team: Primary, Coach, Strategist + NOC Leader Coordination
- August — Intel Drives Strategy: Advanced Intel Requests, Verification + Conflicting Intel
- September — Use Third Parties Wisely: Third-Party Selection, Preparation + Control
- October — When Reality Is Different: Psychosis, Delusions + Clear Communication
- November — Hostage Dynamics: Hostage Needs, Proof of Life + Release Planning
- December — Put It All Together: Complex Team Integration + Year-End Evaluation
Each month builds on what came before. A team cannot effectively influence behavior without listening and rapport. It cannot manage risk without asking good questions. Advanced Intel becomes more valuable once negotiators know what information should drive strategy. Third-party and hostage work then require the team to combine communication, risk assessment, Intel, strategy, and coordinated NOC operations.
Each monthly block includes focused instruction, a skill-building game, Back-to-Back practice, Intel/IR work, NOC team development, scenario training, structured evaluation resources. Materials are designed to help agencies deliver consistent, meaningful training without having to build every training day from scratch.
The complete annual program also provides the supporting instructor/facilitator and participant materials needed to deliver the curriculum consistently throughout the year.
Best for: Teams that want an organized, progressive training program instead of starting from scratch every month.
